It all started with Roman Polanski's "Chinatown" (1974) in October 2011. Since then we've really evolved (still evolving) in to a unit of Chicago film lovers who can't stop talking about all the things we love about film. Right now we have two meetups a month, one that's more structured by focusing on talking about one film, like "Chinatown", at Argo Tea, then we also have a "social" meetup where we can go wild at Wilde Bar & Resturaunt, with no structure or limit to our discussion. What we have …

We are a non-for-profit meetup group developed to support the little Queer Film Festival in Chicago. Our goal is to foster a community of passionate volunteers to acquire and showcase quality queer films. Mainstream theaters are hard to come by. We seek small, intimate venues such as wine bars, music lounges and art galleries conducive to social/mingling and make high quality independent programs more accessible to our community. Here are some of our ideas of future meet ups: 1. Women's movie ni …

Spiritual Cinema is a new genre of films. A movie is often a memorable experience, especially when you are able to follow that movie with a meaningful discussion among like-minded people. The intention of Spiritual Cinema Meetup is to present one or more spiritual themed movies each month for our members viewing pleasure and stimulating discussion. These will generally be movies that were not released through traditional theatres. They were frequently created for the audience we are, individu …

Outdoor Movie Nights! When Chicago's warmer summer weather allows it, we set up an outdoor movie night each month to take advantage of the season (generally May - Sept). In October, when it gets a bit too cold for movies, we set up a haunted house and pumpkin patch. The lawn space opens early for people to spread out their picnic blankets, mingle with their friends and neighbors, and grab a bite to eat. Before show time - we grill out and BBQ for a few hours while we wait for dusk. People are e …

This is a group for people who love cinema and love talking about it... Don't be intimidated about your level of trivia knowledge as a movie geek and don't be bashful about your favorite genre choices. We'll take an eclectic approach to the aesthetics of cinema. Meetups can either be held to see a movie and discuss it afterwards, discuss movies without screening one, or attending one and discussing it at a later date in a separate Meetup...
When I first moved to Chicago 3 years ago, there was a group that met at the Landmark Century Centre Cinema once a month. That group moved too far into the art house scene for my taste, so I'm making my own. The plan: One Tuesday a month, descend on the Landmark at 7pm. Break up into groups based on the film, that way you can see whatever you want. Afterwards, reconvene at a bar around the corner to chat. Plus more. Suggested meetups are for people who want to organize an actual meetup, not prom …

The Book (Was Better) Club is for cinephiles and bookworms alike. Each month, members will select a book for which a film adaptation was (or will be) made. To keep discussions productive, caps will be placed on how many may attend a given meeting, but meet-ups will be held at least twice a month. So if you don't R.S.V.P. in time for one, just join another! Events will range from discussions (over coffee, tea, wine, or my personal favorite: FOOD) to in-home movie viewings and trips to the cinema.
