The Hiway Theatre Film Discussion Group takes place on the 2nd Monday of each month in the theater immediately following the 7 pm screening of the current film. Discussions are led by Adrienne Redd, experienced film discussion leader, lecturer and professor. The discussions are open to the public and free with paid admission. We are a group of movie fans who like to watch foreign movies and independent films. We normally meet before or after the movie over a coffee or a meal to socialize and talk about movies. To help new members find the group, we try to: 1) meet at the same time (25 min before movie starts; 5-10 minutes later, we go in to get seats); 2) meet at an easy-to-find location; 3) sit at the same place (third or fourth center row from the back). Once a month, we gather together in a space in West Philly that can fit up to 50 people to watch a movie and talk about it. We generally focus on recent dvd releases of foreign, independent, and documentary films. After watching the film together, we have a discussion which usually lasts about 50 minutes. It's been great to meet people from so many different backgrounds and see the value that diversity adds to our group and discussions. Javaflix is a free event.

As independent filmmakers, we know how hard it is to find a platform to screen our movies. This group will be a platform for indie filmmakers to screen their movies.
